San Jose, CA — July 1, 2007 — Aeris® ( www.aeris.net ), the leading network services provider for wireless machine-to-machine (M2M) fixed and mobile communications services, today announced that the company will provide its CDMA services to M2M Communications, a leading supplier of M2M monitoring and control systems. Aeris's services are part of a solution that allows M2M Communications and PacifiCorp, an electricity producer, to more efficiently manage energy consumption during peak usage times.
PacifiCorp is currently working with irrigation customers to achieve up to 450 megawatts of peak energy savings by 2013 and 285 megawatts of customer load control initiatives. A savings of this magnitude could power an average of 350,000 residential homes a year.
"The positive effects of energy conservation are far-reaching and we are pleased to be part of this innovative solution for PacifiCorp," said Mark Cratsenburg, senior vice president of sales for Aeris. "Aeris's machine-to-machine wireless network allows M2M Communications to provide turn-key services to their customers. We are honored to be part of their portfolio of service providers.”
"We specialize in industrial M2M applications, especially equipment monitoring and control," said Steve Hodges, president of M2M Communications. "Demand Side Management is the process of managing the consumption of energy, generally to optimize generation resources. The M2M Communications system will reduce or shift electricity use to improve electric grid reliability, manage electricity costs, and encourage load shifting or load shedding during times when the electric grid is near its capacity. PacifiCorp can now wirelessly control usage throughout their service area. Aeris provides us with customized network services, like the ability to broadcast reliably to tens of thousands of sites, allowing us to provide a complete solution to our customer – PacifiCorp."
"With the increased energy demands of summer quickly approaching, we need a reliable solution that will allow us to remotely manage the energy load," said Bill Marek, project manager of PacifiCorp. "Aeris and M2M Communications have partnered to provide a solution that meets and exceeds our stringent requirements.”
